Coyote J has been in and out of Birmingham radio for 30 years, yet still looks fabulous --- Coyote attributes his amazing ability to hold on to yesterday to-- an on and off diet--
CJ eats for a month --and then drinks for a month--
Interestingly, when he drinks for a month is when he gains the most weight because food makes him ill--
A very young boy, Coyote J Calhoun made his name straight out of high school when employed by the legendary Birmingham TOP 40, WERC-- as well as it's famous 'album rock' counterpart--WERC-FM--
Interestingly, and few people remember this, but on a couple of occasions on weekends (cuz Jay W. Jason was often to drunk to show up by Sunday night), Coyote more than once did an air shift on both stations simultaneously, doing a top 40 show on the AM and a free form progressive rock show on the FM---and this was before voice tracking--CJ timed and counter-timed the tracks out and physically ran back and forth!
However, because of a potential confusion factor with Coyote Calhoun, a Louisville country DJ and old radio pal of our Coyote, Coyote J has not mentioned his last name on-air in BIRMINGHAM for over 20 years---
Hence was Coyote J's impact in Birmingham radio so memorable that the 'Calhoun' still sticks to him no matter; and it's not the only time a Calhoun has stuck to him, but this is a bio, and CJ is a DJ, not a urologist. Although as a young boy, Coyote showed some interest in the field of urology, but when he found out he would have to fondle men's nuts, he threw up and decided to do some thing a little less 'hands on.'
In the early 80's Coyote spent some time 'free lancing' in Los Angeles which, as we all know, is a euphemism for sleeping in the doorway of liquor stores---
Later Coyote J moved on to KPRI in San Diego where he laid the groundwork for only the third effin alternative rock station in THE EFFIN WORLD--- later he was fired from KPRI FOR laying the groundwork for the third alternative station in THE EFFIN WORLD !!!
Suffice to say, and to fast forward Coyote's bloated resume, CJ has worked for a number of the most legendary radio stations in the southeast, including, WERC, I-95, Z-102, WKDF, THE X and now ROCK 99-!
Coyote has, like Jimmy Page, from time to time been called a 'pagan.' For the record, Coyote J does not believe in Satan because when trying to look cool in high school he often told his peers he worshipped 'satin' --making him appear effeminized--and that pissed him off so badly he dumped Satan's ass cold--
